“Sudários de Papel” (literally ‘paper shrouds’) draws its name from the sacred connotations of the Holy Shroud, where ‘sacred’ transcends both saint and sacrifice. Inextricably linked to the principles that underpin the ‘Kombucha Biofilms’ series, ‘Sudários de Papel’ extends the hand of re-sacralization to the matter that surrounds us. It is a humble yet thought-provoking statement, challenging our need to rethink our relationships with the often-overlooked ‘things’ in our lives, with a particular focus on residues from artisanal biofermented food processes.

These delicate shrouds that compose ‘Sudários de Papel’ were once fragile napkin sheets used in the meticulous process of drying homemade vegetable cheeses. After their service, these napkins were gently heated in an oven, an alchemical transformation that unveiled breathtaking and entirely unique organic patterns. The magic of these patterns was only possible because these napkins had once lovingly covered living food, imbuing them with an artistry born of nature’s own hand.

Within the delicate forms of ‘Sudários de Papel,’ we discover an invitation to appreciate the beauty and fragility of life itself, and to revere the strengths found in moments of vulnerability.

In ‘Sudários de Papel,’ you’ll find a subtle yet potent reflection of a new paradigm, one that encourages us to see beauty and show respect for the most delicate elements in our surroundings. It is an art piece that speaks to our evolving relationship with the environment and the resacralization of the seemingly ordinary, a harmonious conversation between the ephemeral and the enduring.

The series is composed of 31 “natural printings”, measuring 30cm x 30cm each, 20 pieces measuring 20cm x 20cm and 2 pieces of 60cm x 60cm.
